Afghanistan finish runners-up in Brazil futsal tournament

Afghanistan’s national futsal team finished runners-up in the Brazil tournament after losing 6-0 to the host nation in the final of the six-team competition on Sunday. Fabinho scored twice, while Leandro Lino, Kleber, Serginho and Rufino each added a goal for Brazil.

Afghanistan reached the final after beating Cape Verde 4-2 in the semi-finals. In the group stage, the team drew 0-0 with Japan and defeated Peru 3-0 to advance to the final unbeaten.

According to the organisers, Brazil won the title for the third time, having previously claimed the trophy in 2023 and 2025. Although Afghanistan were defeated in the final, reaching the championship match reflects a significant improvement in the country’s national futsal on the international stage.
