UNICEF Urges Reliable Access to Quality Medicines for Afghan Children

Tajudeen Oyewale, the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan, has stressed the importance of reliable access to safe and high-quality medicines for children and families in Afghanistan.

In a post on X, he said UNICEF Afghanistan and UNICEF Uzbekistan met with medicine manufacturers from across the region in Tashkent to explore ways to cooperate in ensuring sustained access to essential medicines in Afghanistan.

The remarks come as health services have faced many problems, especially in remote areas, since the Taliban retook control of Afghanistan. The lack of equipment and quality medicines, restrictions on female doctors, and a shortage of health facilities have made access to medical care difficult for people, particularly women and children.

This worrying situation highlights the negative consequences of the Taliban administration’s policies and performance, which threaten the health of children and families in Afghanistan and call for serious attention from the international community and relevant organizations.
