Israeli Media Says Netanyahu Sought Case Against Erdogan
Hebrew-language media reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the preparation of a legal case against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for submission to the International Criminal Court.
Israeli Channel 15 said that, following the order, a team has been tasked with collecting and compiling the documents and material needed to prepare the case. According to the report, the aim of the move is to pursue legal action against Erdogan at the International Criminal Court.
The report comes as tensions between Turkey and Israel have risen in recent weeks. Earlier, Turkish officials had called for Netanyahu’s arrest by Interpol.
According to Akın Gürlek, Turkey’s justice minister, Ankara has requested that Interpol issue a “red notice” for Netanyahu over ongoing legal proceedings against him on genocide charges. A similar request has also been made for another Israeli official in connection with allegations of crimes against activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla.
The International Criminal Court issued an international arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel’s former defence minister in November 2024 on charges of committing crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip. The court is a permanent international judicial body that hears allegations related to war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
