Nine Arrested in Herat and Kunar on Drug Trafficking and Explosives Charges

Local officials have said that nine people were arrested in two separate incidents in Herat and Kunar provinces on suspicion of drug trafficking and transporting explosives.

According to security officials in Herat, police in the province arrested eight people from the third district of Herat city as a result of intelligence-led operations, on suspicion of drug trafficking.

At the same time, security forces in Kunar province also arrested one person in the Dara-e-Pech district. According to published information, the individual was detained while transporting 68 kilograms of explosive material of the gunpowder type.

Officials said the material had been skillfully concealed in a Corolla car. They said the cases of the detainees would be handed over to judicial authorities after the investigations are completed.

Herat is located in western Afghanistan and Kunar in the east. Dara-e-Pech is part of Kunar province and has also seen security incidents in recent years.
