Taliban says $580,000 seized at Islam Qala border crossing

The Taliban administration says it has seized $580,000 at the Islam Qala border crossing.

The Taliban-led Interior Ministry said border police at Islam Qala had arrested a person on suspicion of attempting to transfer $580,000 to Iran.

According to the ministry, the money was seized by border police and the detained individual will be handed over to judicial authorities after initial investigations.

The Taliban administration has not released further details about the person’s identity, how the cash was discovered, or the exact time of the incident.

Islam Qala, in western Herat province, is one of Afghanistan’s most important border crossings with Iran and a major route for travel and trade between the two countries.
