Taliban shuts down Khatam al-Nabiyin University in Kabul

Sources in Kabul say the Taliban administration has shut down Khatam al-Nabiyin University and told students not to return to the campus, leaving them facing educational uncertainty just before a 20% semester exam.

According to the sources, the decision was conveyed to students on Tuesday, 24 Sunbula, while they still have about three weeks before the semester’s 20% exam. Students were told to find another university to continue their studies.

The sources add that at the start of the semester, students were told the university had been nationalised. However, it is now unclear at which universities the institution’s students, especially those studying medicine, will be able to continue their education.

According to the sources, officials cited “non-academic and religious activities” as the reason for the move. No further details have yet been released about the fate of the students or how they will be transferred to other educational institutions.

Khatam al-Nabiyin University is one of Kabul’s higher education institutions, and its closure could disrupt the academic progress of many students in the middle of the semester.
