Taliban Urges Expanded Security Cooperation With China
Representatives of the Taliban-run Interior Ministry at an international security meeting in China have stressed expanding security cooperation with China and other regional countries. According to officials from the administration, the delegation shared the Taliban’s view of Afghanistan’s security situation, security policies, and regional and international cooperation with participants.
The Taliban administration’s Office of the Chief of Staff of the Interior Ministry said the delegation, led by Zinullah Abir and including Abdul Rahim Saqib, the deputy head of the office, took part in the China International Security Conference. The administration did not release further details on the time of the meeting or the level of participants.
Representatives of the Taliban Interior Ministry also said Afghanistan is committed to ensuring its territory is not used to create insecurity against neighbouring countries or other states. They also called for closer security cooperation with China and regional countries in counterterrorism, narcotics, smuggling and organized crime.
China has been among the regional countries that have maintained political and security contacts with the Taliban administration in recent years. Border security, the activities of extremist groups and anti-smuggling efforts are among the constant themes of dialogue between the two sides.
