Saudi, British foreign ministers discuss maritime security

Saudi Arabia’s and Britain’s foreign ministers discussed regional developments and ways to strengthen shipping security in regional waterways during a phone call.

According to a report by Mehr News Agency, citing Akhbar 24, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah held a telephone conversation on Saturday with his British counterpart. The two sides reviewed the current situation in the region.

During the talks, the British foreign minister stressed Saudi Arabia’s right to take necessary measures to defend its security and assets in accordance with international law.

The two sides also discussed increasing joint efforts to ensure the security and freedom of navigation in the waterways. According to the source, the call also emphasized protecting global trade and supply chains from the consequences of the ongoing crisis.

Saudi Arabia is considered one of the main actors in Middle East developments, and the security of the region’s waterways, especially for the transfer of energy and international trade, is one of the key issues in the kingdom’s diplomatic consultations.
