China’s Ambassador in Kabul Backs Expanded Ties in Farewell Meeting With Muttaqi

The Taliban-run Foreign Ministry said Zhao Xing, China’s ambassador in Kabul, discussed bilateral relations in a farewell meeting with acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.

According to the ministry’s statement, Muttaqi described Afghanistan’s relations with China as “historical and positive” and expressed appreciation for the Chinese ambassador’s mission in Kabul.

Zhao Xing also described relations between the two countries as friendly and voiced hope that ties between Kabul and Beijing would expand further in various fields, the Taliban administration’s Foreign Ministry said.

China is among the few countries that have maintained diplomatic contact and engagement with Kabul since the Taliban returned to power, and its embassy in Kabul has continued to operate.
