Afghanistan’s Ambassador in Switzerland Warns of Deteriorating Human Rights

Nasir Ahmad Andisha, Afghanistan’s ambassador in Switzerland, has said that the human rights situation and human dignity in Afghanistan have continued to worsen five years after the Doha agreement and the return of the Taliban administration to power.

He wrote on X on Thursday, 19 September, that according to a recent UN report, the people of Afghanistan, especially women, girls and artists, are facing unprecedented restrictions in education, work and freedom of expression.

According to Andisha, despite these restrictions, art has become a tool of resistance and a reflection of the voice of the Afghan people. He added that Afghan women artists, both inside the country and in exile, are trying to bring their voices to the international community through their artistic works.

Andisha also referred to the exhibition “Flourishing Afghanistan,” held on the sidelines of the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council, saying the exhibition reflects the voice of perseverance and hope of Afghan women artists.

The UN Human Rights Council is one of the organisation’s main bodies for reviewing the human rights situation in countries, and Afghanistan in recent years, especially after the Taliban administration returned to power, has repeatedly been a focus of discussion in the council.
