UN Human Rights Council to Begin Examining Afghanistan at Geneva Session
Naseer Ahmad Andisha, Afghanistan’s ambassador to Switzerland, has announced that the 63rd ordinary session of the United Nations Human Rights Council begins today in Geneva, with the situation in Afghanistan at the centre of the meeting.
According to him, the session will continue from September 7 to October 7, 2026, at the UN headquarters in Geneva. He raised the matter on Monday, 16 Sunbula, on X.
Andisha said Richard Bennett, the UN special rapporteur for Afghanistan, will also present his report at the session, focusing on “children’s rights.”
He added that the statement of Afghanistan’s permanent mission and the holding of several side meetings on Afghanistan-related issues will form the main part of this week’s advocacy and actions.
The UN Human Rights Council is one of the organisation’s main bodies for reviewing human rights conditions in different countries, and its sessions are held in Geneva.
