Taliban Detain 12 Teachers at Khatam al-Nabiyyin Seminary
Amid the Taliban administration’s continued raid on the Khatam al-Nabiyyin seminary, 12 teachers at the institution have been detained and electricity to the seminary has been cut off, in a move that has prompted protests from some residents and reports of violent treatment of demonstrators.
Mohammad Jawad Mohseni, head of Tolo TV and grandson of Mohammad Asef Mohseni, the founder of the Khatam al-Nabiyyin seminary, wrote on his Facebook page on Saturday night, 14 Sonbola, that the arrests took place after the Taliban administration’s Ministry of Justice sent more people to the seminary.
According to him, some of those sent to the Khatam al-Nabiyyin seminary were armed, while others carried sticks and batons. Mohseni also said that the Taliban administration cut off the seminary’s electricity.
Earlier, sources had also confirmed the arrest of a number of teachers at the Khatam al-Nabiyyin seminary. Reports also indicate that the Taliban administration’s raid on the seminary has faced public protests, and that its fighters have responded violently to demonstrators.
The Khatam al-Nabiyyin seminary is one of Kabul’s well-known religious and educational centres, and news related to it usually draws wide attention among residents of the capital and religious institutions.
