Israel to release five Lebanese detainees held in south Lebanon

The Israeli prime minister’s office has announced that the country will release five Lebanese citizens who were detained in southern Lebanon.

In a statement, Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said that after reviewing the cases of these individuals, it was determined that they had no links to any group, according to Israeli officials, and that there was no reason to continue holding them.

At the same time, the Israeli prime minister’s office said Netanyahu had ordered an intensification of efforts to search for the remains of Israelis who were captured and killed in Lebanon in the mid-1980s.

The office also claimed that steps have been taken by Lebanese and Israeli parties to find these remains. In recent decades, southern Lebanon has been one of the main centres of tension and conflict between Lebanon and Israel.
