SCO Urges Inclusive Government in Afghanistan for Lasting Peace
Member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation said in the final statement of the Bishkek summit that forming an inclusive government with the participation of all ethnic and political groups is the only way to achieve lasting peace in Afghanistan.
The organisation’s members also stressed their commitment to supporting global efforts to ensure peace, stability and development in Afghanistan, and said they support related processes in this regard.
The statement said the members want Afghanistan to become an independent, neutral and peace-loving country. They also emphasised the need to confront terrorism, war and narcotics in Afghanistan.
In the statement, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation described Afghanistan as a key link for stability in Central Asia. The Bishkek summit is the organisation’s leaders’ meeting, held with the participation of member states to discuss political, security and regional issues.
