Trade Chamber Says Afghanistan Has Boosted Domestic Production of More Than 10 Building Materials

The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment has announced that the country has achieved a high degree of self-sufficiency in the domestic production of more than 10 essential building materials, a development the body says could reduce market dependence on imports of these goods.

Hamidullah Habibi, head of the chamber’s infrastructure and construction committee, said the private sector is also working to raise the country’s self-sufficiency in the production of other building materials. He added that this process still requires expanded investment in the production sector.

According to him, to strengthen this sector, the government and investors should make further investments in the production of building materials. He did not provide further details about the type of these materials or the exact level of production.

The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment is among the active bodies advocating for private-sector issues in Afghanistan, and its specialized committees, including the infrastructure and construction committee, focus on issues related to production, markets and investment.
