Taliban Administration Reviews Border Situation in Badakhshan’s Ashkasham District

The Taliban administration said it has reviewed the border situation in Ashkasham district of Badakhshan province.

The administration said Mawlawi Inayatullah Shuja, deputy minister for border affairs at the Ministry of Borders, Ethnicities and Tribes, travelled to Ashkasham district during a visit to Badakhshan and examined border areas and the problems faced by residents there.

According to the Ministry of Borders, Ethnicities and Tribes, Shuja went to Badakhshan with a delegation on Saturday and, after meeting with security, border and local officials in Ashkasham, visited parts of the border areas.

In a statement, he made recommendations on organising border affairs and improving coordination among the relevant departments. The ministry also said Shuja stressed the need to address the problems of border forces and residents of border areas.

Ashkasham district is located in eastern Badakhshan province, along Afghanistan’s border with Tajikistan and near the Wakhan Corridor, an area that has local and strategic importance in terms of cross-border movement and border management.
