Taliban Launches Geological Mapping Work in Southern and Western Afghanistan
The Taliban-run Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has said it has begun work on preparing Afghanistan’s geological map in the country’s southern and western regions. According to the ministry, two specialist teams have been sent to the Kandahar and Herat zones to carry out field surveys and regional studies.
According to information released by the body, the programme is part of the 1405 plan. The Taliban says the process will be implemented across three geological zones of the country.
According to the Taliban-run Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, the aim of the programme is to collect geological data, create a scientific and technical database, and provide the basis for better exploration and management of Afghanistan’s mines.
The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum is one of the Taliban administration’s key bodies in the natural resources sector. Because of its vast mineral reserves, Afghanistan has for years faced challenges in geological surveys and the transparent management of underground resources.
