Russia Says It Is Ready to Back Mediation on Iran

Alexander Alimov, Russia’s deputy foreign minister, said Moscow is ready, if asked, to support mediation efforts aimed at ending the war in Iran and maintaining stability in the Middle East.
He added that this readiness is not limited to the Iran issue and could also be raised within the broader framework of protecting regional stability, including in connection with a security doctrine in the Gulf.
According to Alimov, developments in Lebanon have made efforts to revive talks between the United States and Iran more difficult.
Russia had previously proposed mediating between Iran and Arab Gulf states. The Persian Gulf is considered one of the region’s most important strategic energy routes, and any tension there affects regional stability.
