Philippine customs seize 43 kg of meth shipped from Afghanistan

The Philippine Bureau of Customs has announced that it discovered and seized about 43 kilograms of methamphetamine, known locally as “shisheh,” in a shipment sent from Afghanistan at the Manila International Container Port.

According to Exos on Sunday, Aug. 23, the shipment was valued at nearly $5.1 million. Customs officials said the drugs were concealed in packages resembling talc stones and hidden among commercial goods.

Officials from the Bureau of Customs and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said laboratory tests confirmed the presence of methamphetamine hydrochloride in the shipment.

Methamphetamine, or “shisheh,” is a stimulant and highly addictive drug that can cause serious physical and mental harm. The Manila International Container Port is one of the Philippines’ most important trade gateways.
