Taliban Loses Control of Yaftal District in Badakhshan for Several Hours

The group known as the ‘Homeland Soldiers’ has announced that on July 17, they took control of Yaftal district in Badakhshan province for several hours, temporarily ousting the Taliban administration. If confirmed, this would be the first instance of a district being lost, even temporarily, in the past five years.

The group released a video showing the moment they raised their flag in Yaftal district and claimed that their forces controlled the district on that day.

The Taliban administration has yet to officially respond to the claim. If verified, this development could indicate increased activity by armed opposition groups in certain areas of the country.

Yaftal district is located in Badakhshan province in northeast Afghanistan, a province that has witnessed occasional clashes between Taliban forces and armed opposition groups in recent years.
