Taliban Acting Economy Minister Emphasizes Continued Financial Support from Norwegian Committee Amid Aid Cuts
As reductions in international aid have raised concerns about the livelihood of the Afghan people, the Acting Minister of Economy of the Taliban administration emphasized the continuation of humanitarian and developmental assistance from the Norwegian Committee in a meeting with its General Director for Afghanistan.
The press office of the Taliban’s Ministry of Economy announced that during this meeting, both parties discussed the Norwegian Committee’s future programs and coordination methods with the ministry. According to the source, the implementation of the committee’s four-year strategy was a main topic of discussion.
Taria Magnusson Watredal, the General Director of the Norwegian Committee for Afghanistan, stated that the committee’s four-year strategy focuses on ensuring food security, managing natural resources, providing health services and rehabilitation, as well as vocational training and capacity building. She added that despite the global reduction in aid, the committee continues supporting persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
The Acting Minister of Economy considered coordination between the ministry and domestic and international organizations essential for implementing humanitarian and developmental programs. He claimed that the Taliban administration supports programs aimed at economic growth and job creation.
The Norwegian Committee for Afghanistan is an international organization active in the humanitarian and development sectors in the country. In recent years, it has concentrated part of its activities on supporting vulnerable individuals and returnees—a focus that, amid economic crisis conditions, remains dependent on foreign aid.
