10-Day Multi-Vaccine Immunization Campaign for Children Launched in Afghanistan
The organization ‘Afghanistan Polio Free’ announced that a rapid multi-vaccine campaign (MAAC) began on Saturday, August 1, in Afghanistan and will continue for 10 days. The goal of this program is to increase immunity levels among children against preventable diseases.
According to the organization, the campaign includes the oral polio vaccine (OPV) as well as the inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) to further strengthen children’s immunity.
Measles and pentavalent vaccines are also part of this program. The pentavalent vaccine is used to prevent five dangerous diseases, including diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), tetanus, hepatitis B, and infections caused by Hib (Haemophilus influenzae type b).
Additionally, the pertussis vaccine is provided to protect against whooping cough and some other contagious diseases, and the rotavirus vaccine is available to prevent severe diarrhea caused by the virus. The organization ‘Afghanistan Polio Free’ had previously announced the initiation of this nationwide campaign.
