Iraq Parliament Speaker Condemns Attacks on Security Headquarters
Heydar al-Halbousi, Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, strongly condemned the attacks on the country’s security forces’ headquarters, which resulted in several deaths and injuries, describing them as a blatant violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a statement, he emphasized that any violation of Iraqi soil is unacceptable and stressed the importance of respecting international law and the United Nations Charter, which call for preventing military actions that violate countries’ sovereignty. According to him, Iraq’s security institutions have the constitutional duty to protect the country.
The Speaker called on Ali al-Zaidi, Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the attack and to undertake all necessary diplomatic and legal actions to safeguard Iraq’s rights and sovereignty.
Al-Halbousi also demanded the identification and legal prosecution of those using Iraqi territory to conduct hostile acts against neighboring countries. He underscored that, based on the constitution, Iraqi territory must not be used as a route or base for aggression against other nations.
In conclusion, highlighting the need to keep Iraq away from regional and international conflicts, he said that national interests require Iraq to become a platform for stability and dialogue, not a battleground for military disputes. Al-Halbousi extended his condolences to the families of the martyrs and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
