Clashes Continue in Badakhshan Amid Conflicting Reports on Security Situation
Local sources in Badakhshan report intermittent clashes between Taliban administration forces and the “Front for Freedom” in the districts of Zebak, Yaftal, and Dareem, with some areas of the province witnessing armed confrontations over the past few days.
According to these sources, heavy fighting lasted for several hours last night in Zebak district, while sporadic gunfire was also heard from parts of Dareem district. They indicate that the security situation remains unstable in several areas.
Meanwhile, the Front for Freedom claims to have taken control of several Taliban battalions and checkpoints in the artillery area of Zebak district, stating that the fighting continues. The group also reported that last night, they launched a “missile attack” on a Taliban military convoy in Doshi district of Baghlan province, resulting in several casualties. Local sources have confirmed the attack but have not provided details on the number of casualties.
In contrast, Fasih Uddin Fetrat, chief of staff of the Taliban army, claimed that the situation in Badakhshan, especially in Zebak district, is “fully under control” by the Taliban administration and that opposition forces have faced “strong resistance.” The Taliban administration has denied losing any checkpoints or bases and has not yet responded to the claim of the attack in Doshi district.
Zebak district is located in the southeast of Badakhshan and borders the districts of Ashkasham, Kran and Maimay, Jurm, as well as Chitral in Pakistan; a geographical and security position that makes this district one of the most sensitive areas in the province.
