UN Reports Power Shortages in Afghan Cities Fueling Crisis

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) has reported that most cities in Afghanistan are facing power shortages, a situation disrupting daily family life, economic activities, and the education of young people.

On Monday, July 20, UN-Habitat stated on its X page that persistent power outages have caused serious difficulties for families, harmed businesses, and prevented youth from attending to their studies during evening hours.

UN-Habitat emphasized that investing in renewable energy, particularly solar power, is essential for building resilient and sustainable cities in Afghanistan.

The agency also released an image of a clinic equipped with a solar energy system, constructed with the support of the Afghanistan Trust Fund (STFA) and UN-Habitat.
