Floods and Landslides in India Claim at Least 25 Lives

Heavy rainfall and flooding in northern and northeastern India have resulted in at least 25 fatalities and left several others missing.

According to Reuters, in the regions of Poonch, Rajouri, and Doda in Indian-administered Kashmir, at least 15 people have lost their lives due to incidents caused by the rain. A senior police official stated that several others remain missing in these areas, and search operations are ongoing to find them.

In the northeastern state of Nagaland, multiple landslides triggered by continuous rainfall have claimed nine lives. Officials have reported that rescue teams have so far recovered the bodies of four victims from under the debris.

Additionally, in the state of Assam, one person has died due to flooding, and over 57,000 people in seven districts have been affected by heavy rains.

The India Meteorological Department has warned that the active monsoon conditions in the northwest, east, and northeast parts of the country will continue for the next six to seven days, raising concerns about further casualties and damage.
