Five Militants Killed in Separate Police Operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan
Pakistani security sources have announced that five armed individuals were killed in several separate police operations in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. These operations took place in the regions of Bannu, South Waziristan, and Dera Ismail Khan.
The Dawn newspaper reported on Sunday, July 19, that three of these individuals were targeted and killed during an intelligence-based operation in the Bakakhel area of Bannu District. Security officials said the operation was launched following specific intelligence about the presence of armed men in the area.
In another incident, Pakistani police stated that in the city of Wana in Lower South Waziristan, a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) was neutralized before it could be used in a suicide attack. According to authorities, the explosion of the vehicle killed one armed individual, thereby thwarting a “major terrorist plot.”
Security sources also added that five others were injured during these operations. So far, no additional details about the identities of those killed or wounded have been released.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwestern Pakistan, especially areas bordering Afghanistan, has witnessed an increase in armed attacks and counter-insurgency operations in recent years.
