829 Migrant Families Return via Four Border Crossings, Receive Aid and Services
The High Commission for Addressing Migrant Issues has announced that 829 families, totaling 4,415 individuals, have returned to the country through the Torkham, Spin Boldak, Islam Qala, and Silk Bridge crossings, and their initial registration and processing have been completed.
According to the Commission’s report, published by Hamdullah Fetrat, Deputy Spokesperson for the Taliban administration, the majority of returnees came through the Torkham crossing, where 712 families comprising 3,831 people have been registered upon arrival. Additionally, 73 families (404 individuals) arrived via Spin Boldak, 41 families (167 individuals) through the Silk Bridge in Nimroz province, and 3 families (13 individuals) via Islam Qala.
The Commission stated that 590 families, totaling 3,187 individuals, have been transferred from reception centers to various provinces. Among them, 313 families were moved to Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, and Kabul provinces; 35 families from Spin Boldak to Kabul; and 224 families from Kabul to other provinces. A total of 5,440,070 Afghanis was paid as transportation fare for these transfers.
Regarding cash assistance, 525 families have collectively received 4,398,000 Afghanis. According to the Commission, these funds were distributed at the Torkham, Spin Boldak, Islam Qala, and Silk Bridge crossings.
The Commission added that health, food, and telecommunications services have also been provided to the returnees. In the Amuri camp in Nangarhar, medical and communication services were offered, and 750 SIM cards distributed. At Spin Boldak, 1,260 ready meals were prepared and 64 SIM cards distributed, while in Nimroz, 322 individuals received medical services.
The Commission further noted that Information and Public Awareness Committees in Torkham and Silk Bridge have guided the returnees on registration, transfer, temporary accommodation, access to cash assistance, and other services.
