Draft Asylum Law Submitted to Ministry of Justice for Legal Processing

The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation announced that a meeting to review the draft asylum law was held under the chairmanship of Mawlawi Abdul Rahman Rashid, the ministry’s sectorial deputy. The draft is set to be submitted to the Ministry of Justice soon for legal procedures.

According to the ministry, representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Justice, courts, and the General Directorate of Intelligence attended the meeting, where various articles of the draft were discussed and debated. Participants shared their views and suggestions to improve and amend the document.

Mawlawi Rashid emphasized during the meeting that the asylum law should be formulated in accordance with Sharia and Islamic principles and should facilitate the provision of asylum rights. He did not provide further details on how this right would be guaranteed.

The draft had previously been finalized by a dedicated committee within the Ministry of Refugees. Given the current situation in the country and ongoing waves of displacement and migration, the alignment of this law with international refugee protection standards and how it will be implemented are issues expected to draw the attention of legal bodies and human rights advocates—especially amid criticism of the Taliban administration regarding the observance of fundamental citizen rights.
