Taliban Establishes Special Committees to Address Media Issues and Journalists’ Rights

The Commission for Media Complaints and Violations, operating under the Deputy of Publications of the Ministry of Information and Culture of the Taliban administration, has announced the formation of special committees to examine the rights of certain journalists and the challenges faced by private and local radio stations.

According to the ministry’s statement, a regular commission meeting was held under the chairmanship of Hayatullah Mohajer Farahi, Deputy of Publications. The discussions focused on the current challenges facing private and local radio broadcasters and ways to secure the rights of several journalists. Following the discussions, commission members decided to establish dedicated committees to address these issues.

The statement added that these committees are tasked with conducting comprehensive investigations and presenting their findings and reports at the commission’s next meeting.

The creation of these committees comes amid growing concerns over recent years about restrictions on media activity and the working conditions of journalists in the country. Many media activists emphasize that complaint investigations must be conducted transparently, impartially, and with practical guarantees for the rights of journalists and private media outlets, aiming to strengthen trust between the media and responsible institutions.
