Kirkuk Declares Wednesday Holiday for Funeral of Martyr Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei

The governor of Kirkuk has issued an official order declaring all government offices and institutions in the province closed on Wednesday to enable residents to attend the funeral procession of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, the martyred leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution. This decision coincides with widespread preparations in other Iraqi provinces to hold the ceremony.
The Kirkuk Governor’s Office stated in a release that Mohamed Samaan Agha initiated this move to facilitate the public’s participation both in the funeral procession and the anniversary ceremony of the martyrdom of Imam Zain al-Abidin in the Daquq district. The statement added that the event will reflect social solidarity and cohesion in Kirkuk.
At the national level, Iraq is on high alert. As the time approaches for transferring the revered body of the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution to the country, the cities of Najaf and Karbala, which are the primary locations for the ceremonies, have witnessed preparations by official institutions, popular committees, tribes, Hussaini processions, and security forces.
Simultaneously, the provinces of Baghdad, Najaf, Karbala, Diwaniyah, Nasiriyah, and Basra have also declared Wednesday a holiday. Special committees have been formed, coordination meetings held, and processions prepared as part of measures to manage the events and facilitate participants’ attendance.
Iraqi media have reported that coordination sessions at various levels are ongoing to organize funeral routes, arrange religious sites, provide security, and mobilize service personnel, indicating the country’s readiness to host a large-scale ceremony.
