The Governor of Herat, in a meeting with a delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran Railway Company, emphasized the expansion of joint cooperation in the railway sector and the acceleration of railway projects between the two countries. In this meeting, both sides discussed practical solutions to advance existing plans, technical coordination, and resolving implementation challenges.
Sheikh Mawlawi Islamjar described the development of the railway network as a strategic plan in the transportation and transit sector and stated that the Herat local administration is ready to facilitate and coordinate necessary measures in support of these projects. According to him, the expansion of railway lines could provide opportunities for increased trade, transit growth, and job creation in the province.
Members of the Iranian Railway Company delegation also expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the Herat local administration and stressed the continuation of joint interactions to develop rail links and strengthen transit routes between Afghanistan and Iran.
In recent years, the development of rail connectivity between the two countries has been a key axis of economic cooperation. The Khaf-Herat railway line is one of the most important joint projects in this regard, established to facilitate goods transportation, reduce shipping costs, and improve Afghanistan’s access to regional and international markets. Continued investment and technical coordination in this area can play a vital role in strengthening Herat’s economy and expanding trade exchanges.
