Maulvi Abdulsalam Hanafi, the Administrative Deputy of the Taliban Prime Minister’s Office, led a delegation from the Commission for Organizational Structure and Salaries to inspect the conditions of all individuals held at Pul-e-Charkhi prison. According to the Prime Minister’s Office press release, the visit included an assessment of the prisoners’ health status, administrative services, and legal and religious matters.

The delegation discussed and exchanged views with prison officials on improving administrative services, ensuring health preservation, providing water and food supplies, and better addressing prisoners’ affairs. They also reviewed the condition of the prison clinic, living quarters, recreational areas, and the general cleanliness of the facility.

Furthermore, instructions were given to the relevant authorities to treat prisoners in accordance with Islamic law and their religious rights and to take practical measures to meet their basic needs. The Taliban administration did not disclose details regarding the number of inmates, the nature of charges against them, or specific ongoing challenges within the detention center.

Located in eastern Kabul, Pul-e-Charkhi prison is among the largest detention centers in the country and has frequently been the subject of human rights organizations’ concerns regarding the legal status and living conditions of inmates.
