Floods in Kunar Destroy Dozens of Homes and Farmlands

Heavy rains and flooding in several districts of Kunar province have caused extensive financial damage to local residents. According to local sources, dozens of residential houses, agricultural lands, irrigation canals, and parts of roads have been destroyed, and some livestock have also perished.

The floods occurred on the afternoon of Friday, June 26, affecting the districts of Chapadara, Pech Dara, Kunar Khas, Sarkano, Nurgal, and Asadabad, the provincial capital of Kunar. The intensity of the rainfall caused water levels to rise suddenly in many areas, flowing into residential zones and farmlands.

According to available information, no human casualties have been reported so far due to these floods in Kunar. However, residents have expressed concern over the heavy financial losses and have called for immediate assistance.

Officials from the Taliban’s Department for Disaster Preparedness in Kunar have confirmed the financial damages but have not provided details regarding the extent of losses or plans for relief efforts. In the past, residents of this province have complained about the lack of resources for natural disaster prevention and response.

Meanwhile, heavy rains and flooding were also reported yesterday in Jalalabad city, the capital of Nangarhar province, and several of its districts. As a result, a 13-year-old child died, and financial losses were incurred by residents.
