Thousands in Albania Protest Trump Family-Linked Mega Resort Project

Thousands of Albanians have taken to the streets for the twentieth consecutive day to protest a major recreational project linked to the family of Donald Trump, the President of the United States. The demonstrators gathered in the capital, Tirana, chanting “Albania is not for sale” and demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister.

According to reports, public pressure from the protests has led to the temporary suspension of construction in some parts of the project. Protesters fear that the implementation of the plan could harm the country’s national interests and its natural coastal areas.

The project involves building hotel complexes and tourist facilities on the uninhabited island of Sazan as well as in the areas of Zvernec and Vjosa-Narta in southern Albania. Some of these locations lie within coastal and protected regions that are environmentally significant.

Previously, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner announced plans to develop a private island of approximately 1,400 hectares in the Mediterranean Sea. They stated the project would be designed in collaboration with international architects.

It is planned that Sazan Island, which formerly was a military site near Albania’s coast, will be transformed into a private island for the Trump family, with an investment company affiliated with Kushner responsible for its execution.
