Second Phase of Kandahar–Spin Boldak Road Nears Completion at 98%
The Ministry of Public Works has announced that the construction of the second phase of the Kandahar–Spin Boldak road, stretching 39.6 kilometers, has reached 98% physical progress and will be completed soon. This phase includes the construction of two bridges and 67 culverts and is considered one of the key transit routes in southern Afghanistan.
According to the ministry, the project aims to improve transport infrastructure and facilitate travel on the strategic route between the city of Kandahar and Spin Boldak port—a main commercial gateway between Afghanistan and Pakistan that sees daily freight and passenger traffic.
Simultaneously, work is underway on the Spin Boldak–Wish road, which is 8 kilometers long and 60 meters wide, in Kandahar province. This project includes sidewalks, drainage canals, green spaces between road lanes, construction of 10 culverts, and 260 meters of retaining walls, and has currently achieved 16% physical progress.
Both the Kandahar–Spin Boldak and Spin Boldak–Wish roads are considered important national infrastructure projects. Upon completion, they will facilitate easier travel for residents, enhance the transportation of commercial goods, and strengthen transit routes with neighboring countries. However, the Taliban administration has yet to release details regarding the budget, funding sources, and the exact timeline for the official opening of these projects. It is expected that more information will be shared with the public to ensure transparency and accountability.
