Taliban Downgrades Ministry of Labor to General Directorate Level

Reliable sources within the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs have confirmed that this ministry will be downgraded to a ‘General Directorate’ within the administrative structure of the Taliban government. According to these sources, discussions on this matter have been finalized, and the institution will be removed from its status as a ministry.

A source stated on Tuesday, June 7, that this organizational change will be implemented soon, and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs will operate under the new framework as a General Directorate. It remains unclear how the authority and budget of the institution will change following this downgrade.

So far, the Taliban administration has not issued an official statement regarding this move, nor have they provided clear reasons for this decision. The lack of transparency about such a significant administrative change has raised questions about the openness and decision-making process within the government structure.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is one of the bodies responsible for handling workers’ affairs, regulating the labor market, and providing social support in the country. Downgrading this ministry to the level of a General Directorate could affect the scope of its authority and its accountability—an issue that requires clear explanation from Taliban officials.
