Lebanon’s Prime Minister Warns of Israel’s Widespread Destruction Policy

Nawaf Salam, Lebanon’s Prime Minister, stated that the country is facing a “dangerous and unprecedented escalation” of tensions from Israel. He explained that the attacks are not limited to specific areas but encompass a policy of widespread destruction and collective displacement.

He added that Israel, in what he described as a blatant violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, has even targeted the country’s archaeological sites, some of which are listed as World Heritage sites. Salam emphasized that the Lebanese government will spare no effort to achieve a ceasefire, Israeli withdrawal, and the start of reconstruction.

The Prime Minister further noted that this war was imposed on Lebanon and has inflicted heavy costs on the country. According to him, the government is determined to protect Lebanon from becoming a field for exchanging regional messages.

Salam considered negotiations a less costly and more suitable option but stressed that issues such as full withdrawal, the return of prisoners, reconstruction, and the repatriation of displaced persons are non-negotiable.

He also underscored that Lebanon would be in a stronger position whenever efforts are coordinated under the authority of the government and without unilateral actions. He stated that the decision of war and peace must rest with the government, and Israel will not achieve security through destruction.
