US Denies Resuming Escort Operations for Ships in Strait of Hormuz

A senior US official denied reports claiming that the US military had resumed escort operations for commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, describing such reports as inaccurate during an interview with Al Jazeera.
According to the official, claims about the reactivation of this mission in the Persian Gulf do not correspond to reality. He emphasized that no new operations under the so-called ‘Operation Freedom’ have been initiated.
These remarks came in response to a report by The Wall Street Journal, which alleged that the US Navy had restarted guiding commercial vessels navigating near Iranian shores.
The report further claimed that US warships had successfully escorted a Greek supertanker carrying two million barrels of crude oil through the waterway. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most critical energy transit chokepoints in the region, and any security developments there have significant international repercussions.
