US Denies Resuming Escort Operations for Ships in Strait of Hormuz

A US official, speaking to Al Jazeera, denied reports that the US military has resumed escorting commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, calling the claims inaccurate. According to the official, the allegations of reactivating this mission in the Persian Gulf do not reflect reality. He emphasized that no new operations have been launched under what is referred to as the “Freedom Project.” These remarks came in response to a report by the Wall Street Journal, which claimed that the US Navy had restarted directing commercial ships wandering near the Iranian coast. The report also stated that US warships successfully escorted a Greek supertanker carrying two million barrels of crude oil through the waterway. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most critical energy transit points in the region, and any security developments there have broad international repercussions.
