Seven Arrested with 199 Kilograms of Hashish in Balkh, Taliban Police Say

The Balkh police command under the Taliban administration has announced the arrest of seven individuals in connection with drug trafficking in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif. According to the statement, 199 kilograms of hashish were seized from the detainees.

A press release from the Balkh police stated that these individuals were identified and arrested during separate operations within the jurisdiction of Mazar-i-Sharif city. No further details were provided regarding the identities of those arrested or the nature of their alleged activities.

Balkh is one of the key provinces in northern Afghanistan, with Mazar-i-Sharif, its capital, being a densely populated and commercially significant area. Despite claims by Taliban officials that they are combatting narcotics, reports from various parts of the country indicate that the challenges of drug trafficking and trade persist.

Experts have consistently emphasized that an effective fight against drugs requires comprehensive programs, transparency in judicial proceedings, and providing alternative livelihoods for citizens. There is currently little clear information available on how the Taliban administration intends to implement these measures.
