Pakistan Rejects Trump’s Request to Normalize Relations with Israel

Pakistani sources have told Reuters that Islamabad has rejected a request from Donald Trump, the President of the United States, to join the normalization process with Israel under the Abraham Accords. According to these sources, Pakistan has no plans to change its stance on the Palestinian issue.

A knowledgeable Pakistani source emphasized that Trump’s attempt to link ceasefire diplomacy with Iran to broader pressure for countries to join the normalization process is a misguided approach. He stated that the issues of Iran and normalization of relations with Israel are unrelated, and Islamabad does not feel obligated to accept such a request.

Meanwhile, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Pakistan’s Defense Minister, also declared that his country will not join any agreement to normalize relations with Israel. He described such a move as being contrary to Pakistan’s core principles and ideology, adding that Islamabad’s position on this matter is clear and non-negotiable.

The Defense Minister highlighted the significance of the Palestinian issue within Pakistan’s official policy, noting that Pakistan is the only country whose passports do not mention Israel. He further posed a critical question, asking how dialogue can be conducted with a party whose commitments are difficult to trust, according to him.

This stance came after Trump announced that he had asked several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey, to collectively join the Abraham Accords – an agreement aimed at normalizing relations between some Arab countries and Israel.
