Israel Expresses Concern Over Hezbollah’s New Drone Tactics Inspired by Ukraine War

An Israeli military correspondent reported that Israeli officials are seriously concerned about Hezbollah’s growing drone capabilities and the possibility that the group is adopting tactics used in the Ukraine war. Amir Buchbut wrote in a note on the Walla website that as Hezbollah expands its use of drones against Israeli soldiers, the alert level has increased domestically and among drone experts.
According to Israeli experts, one of the effective tactics employed by the Russian army in the Ukraine war is flying drones at very low altitudes, sometimes just one meter above the ground. This approach makes it difficult to detect drones from a distance and reduces the response time of defense systems. The use of intelligent software to determine the safest and quickest route to the target is also considered part of this pattern.
In this method, the flight path is adjusted by considering suitable altitude and passing through areas less vulnerable to electronic warfare. Some drones also travel along paved and dirt roads because these routes usually have fewer obstacles such as trees, buildings, or barbed wire, which expedites reaching the target.
Buchbut also highlighted the “long-range drone ambush” tactic, where drones penetrate tens of kilometers and strike a point that is hard to monitor from the ground or air. According to him, the larger the drone’s battery and the more resistant it is to weather conditions, the more effectively it serves as the “eye on the battlefield.”
Israeli experts added that the use of satellite-reliant drones poses a major challenge to jamming and electronic warfare systems. Furthermore, the technology for deploying autonomous drone swarms that attack a target in a coordinated manner without direct human intervention is still in development. Although this method has not yet been used by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, concerns about its potential future use are rising.
