Mullah Baradar Launches $150 Million Residential Project in Balkh

Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of the Taliban administration, has laid the foundation stone for the ‘Lajward’ residential township in Balkh province. According to his office, the project is being constructed with a $150 million investment from the private sector. The plan includes building 1,448 standard apartments and creating job opportunities for about 7,000 people.

The Deputy Economic Office announced that this township will be built on approximately 10.5 jeribs of land and will include commercial facilities, health centers, schools, green spaces, a mosque, and recreational and sports amenities. Taliban officials describe this project as part of their urban development and infrastructure programs.

At the inauguration ceremony, Mullah Baradar stated that the Taliban administration is committed to providing opportunities and facilities for both domestic and foreign investors in construction and other sectors. He added that there is a special focus on economic self-sufficiency, attracting investment, and implementing major infrastructure projects, including the Qoshtepa project, industrial factories, highways, and power generation.

He called the cooperation between the Taliban administration and the private sector “essential” for economic stability and the country’s reconstruction, urging investors to expand their investments. However, some economic experts have consistently emphasized that ongoing political restrictions and a lack of structural transparency could affect investor confidence and the sustainability of such projects.

The Deputy Economic Minister also said that during his visit to Balkh, he will inspect commercial ports to ensure 24-hour services and prompt handling of export and import processes. According to him, officials from various agencies will accompany him to assess existing challenges and needs in economic sectors and port operations.
