64 Kilometers of TAPI Gas Pipeline Completed in Herat, Afghanistan

Local officials in Herat have announced that the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline project in Afghan territory is ongoing, with 64 kilometers of the pipeline completed along the designated route so far.

Mohammad Yousuf Saeedi, spokesperson for the Herat governor, stated that the work is progressing at an “appropriate pace” and preparations are underway to install an additional 125 kilometers of pipeline. According to him, 51 kilometers of pipe have also been transported through the Noor Line towards the Sami area.

The TAPI project, which transports gas from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India, is considered one of the major regional energy initiatives. Herat is one of the key transit points for this pipeline in western Afghanistan.

Despite the Taliban administration’s announcement of project progress, no further details have been provided regarding the precise timeline for completing the Afghan section or how security and funding for the project will be secured—a matter that has previously been identified as a fundamental challenge for this regional initiative.
