Taliban Official Meets Qatar’s Ambassador in Kabul to Discuss Bilateral Relations and Regional Cooperation

The Office of the Prime Minister of the Taliban administration announced that Mullah Abdul Wasi, the head of the office, met with Murad bin Ali Al-Qashouti, Qatar’s ambassador to Afghanistan, at the Arg Palace. The meeting focused on expanding cooperation, development projects, and regional relations.

According to released information, the Qatari ambassador described the ties between Doha and Kabul as “historic and strong,” stating that during his tenure, he will strive to further develop these relations. He also highlighted Qatar’s development projects and humanitarian aid in Afghanistan, adding that his country aims to continue its cooperation across various sectors by leveraging the current security situation.

The Qatari ambassador also emphasized the importance of positive relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan for the region’s economy, security, and stability. He noted that Doha is working to find appropriate solutions to the issues between the two countries. Afghanistan and Pakistan have faced border and political tensions in recent years, which have affected trade movements and the status of refugees.

Meanwhile, Mullah Abdul Wasi described Afghanistan-Qatar relations as important, stating that Qatar has worked as an Islamic country to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan over the past two decades. He called Qatar’s implemented projects beneficial and expressed the desire to expand cooperation between the two sides.

The head of the Taliban Prime Minister’s Office concluded by emphasizing that the administration seeks positive relations with neighboring, regional, and global countries based on “mutual respect, Afghanistan’s national interests, and Sharia principles.” This comes as the Taliban administration has yet to be officially recognized by any country, and continuing diplomatic engagements with regional countries is considered part of the administration’s efforts to reduce Afghanistan’s political isolation.
