US Central Command: Afghanistan Remains a Key Security Concern for Washington

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has stated that Afghanistan continues to be one of Washington’s primary security concerns, with activities related to potential threats emanating from the country being closely monitored.

Brad Cooper, a senior US military official, told a US Senate committee that Washington has not completely ignored Afghanistan and is working with regional partners to contain and suppress potential threats. He emphasized, “We have not completely ignored Afghanistan. It remains a concerning area.”

These remarks come amid increased worries about the expansion of extremist groups and cross-border threats since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan. Despite the Taliban administration’s claims of ensuring security, ongoing international warnings indicate that the global community remains cautious about the security situation in Afghanistan.

Security experts have previously stressed that any gaps in oversight and restrictions on international organizations’ access could hinder accurate assessments of threat levels. According to US officials, this is why Washington continues its monitoring and regional cooperation on the Afghanistan issue.
