Taliban Security Forces Seize 15 Mortar Shells and Arrest 13 Across Several Provinces

Security officials under Taliban administration have announced that in several separate operations across the provinces of Herat, Khost, Helmand, Jawzjan, Faryab, Baghlan, and Ghor, 15 mortar shells were discovered and 13 individuals were arrested on various criminal charges.

According to the Herat Police Command, counter-terrorism forces seized 15 mortar shells which were reportedly smuggled from Pakistan and arrested one individual in connection with the case. No further details were released about the identity of the detainee or the method used to transfer these weapons.

Additionally, security forces in Zazi Maidan district of Khost province confiscated four “MILE” type Kalashnikov rifles, which are said to belong to state treasury. The Taliban authorities have not provided any explanation regarding how these weapons were removed from government stockpiles.

In other separate operations, police arrested four individuals related to theft in Helmand, four on gambling charges in Jawzjan, three in connection with the theft of a vehicle in Faryab, and two more for theft in Baghlan and Ghor provinces.

Despite the announcement of these arrests, no further information has been provided about the judicial process, detainees’ access to legal counsel, or transparency of legal procedures—a matter that continues to raise concerns among human rights organizations and citizens regarding adherence to fair trial standards.
