Thousands Protest in Charsadda, Pakistan, Demand Arrests in Sheikh Idris Killing

Thousands marched yesterday in Charsadda, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan, protesting the murder of Sheikh Idris, a renowned scholar at the Darul Uloom Haqqania seminary. Protesters gave the government a three-day deadline to arrest those responsible for the incident. They warned that if their demand was not met, all markets in the Pashtun region would be shut down.

Among the participants were residents from Akora Khattak and Peshawar. They chanted slogans criticizing the Pakistani government and its security agencies, calling for an immediate and transparent investigation into the case. They emphasized that delays in arresting the perpetrators would only increase public mistrust.

Meanwhile, Maulvi Saqi Jan, a religious figure who had taken over Sheikh Idris’s preaching duties, expressed grief over the incident. He stated that he had previously warned about threats to Pashtun scholars’ lives.

He added that he released a video yesterday in which he expressed his belief that the safety and protection of Pashtun clerics had not been adequately addressed — an issue now brought to the forefront again by Sheikh Idris’s killing.
