Haaretz Reports Trump Unwilling to Engage in Full-Scale War with Iran

Israeli newspaper Haaretz has reported that despite escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington following developments in the Strait of Hormuz, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, does not appear inclined to enter into a full-scale war with Iran. Haaretz wrote that while Trump has spoken about destroying Iran’s infrastructure in his statements, the available evidence suggests that he is not interested in expanding the conflict into a widespread war. The media outlet added that despite this assessment, no fundamental change in the U.S. president’s approach has been observed, and the final decision still rests with him.

Haaretz also pointed to the increased level of tensions in the Persian Gulf following the U.S. announcement of plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, stating that only one decision by Trump has been able to significantly elevate the tension in this strategic region. According to the newspaper, the maintenance of a ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran now depends more than ever on the restraint shown by both sides—a situation that could also have repercussions for Tel Aviv.

Meanwhile, Al Jazeera, in its report on the first day of the plan announced by Trump titled “Operation Freedom,” noted that the plan has been met with ambiguity and doubt. According to the report, on the first day of implementing this program, there was no sign of the release of stranded ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Al Jazeera further reported that since the beginning of the conflict between the U.S. and Israel with Iran over the past 66 days, hundreds of vessels have been held up in this vital passage. The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most important global energy transit routes, and any tension there can impact global markets.
